🌺 Shri Kshetra Patna Devi – A Confluence of Faith, History, and Nature 🌺

Nestled in the lap of the Gautala Wildlife Sanctuary, adorned with natural beauty, this mythological, historical, and religious tourist destination is considered a sacred site in the Khandesh region. It is home to the awakened and grand temple of Shri Chandika Mata, the Kuladevi of Khandesh.

🔸 A Site Witnessing Glorious History
In this very sacred land, the great mathematician Bhaskaracharya gave the world the invaluable concept of “zero.” He composed many of his unique treatises here, which illuminated India’s scientific heritage.

🔸 A Treasure of Magnificent Historical Sites
This area houses the Pitalkhora Caves – one of the most ancient cave complexes in India, along with several rare and magnificent historical structures such as the Hemadpanthi Mahadev Temple, Kanhergad Fort, Shringar Chawdi, and Nagarjuna Caves.

🔬 A Center of Knowledge for the Future
Soon, the Government of Maharashtra will establish the Bhaskaracharya Innovation Centre here, modeled after the Ahmedabad Science City. The tender for this project has recently been published, and this center is expected to become a source of inspiration for future science enthusiasts.

⛰️ Situated in the bosom of the Gautala Sanctuary, this sacred site is enveloped in natural beauty and spiritual energy…

🔸 Scenic Splendor
The temple is surrounded on three sides by crescent-shaped mountains, gushing streams flowing through hills, and lush green roads – a truly mesmerizing sight.

🔸 Shaktipeeth’s Historical Background
The Chandika Devi here is believed to be the sister of Saptashrungi Devi. According to the Devi Bhagavata scripture, the “Varadahasta”  of the Goddess fell here, making it one of the Varadahasta Shaktipeeths. The nine-foot-tall, eighteen-armed idol symbolizes this awakened divine power. After slaying the demons Chanda and Munda, the goddess was given the name “Chandika.”

🔸 Mathematical Legacy of Bhaskaracharya
On the day of a solar eclipse in 1228 A.D. (Shaka year 1150, Ashadha Amavasya), the temple was opened to the public for the first time. The great mathematician Bhaskaracharya formulated revolutionary mathematical concepts in this very region, giving a new dimension to the field of mathematics.

🌳 Richness of the Forest
Known as the “Storehouse of Sandalwood,” this forest is abundant with biodiversity. Along the path to the temple, one can visit the Hemadpanthi Mahadev Temple, the Kedareshwar Temple hidden in dense woods, the unique Standing Ganpati idol, the hermitage of Madrasi Baba, and scenic spots like Dhavaltirth and Kedarkund waterfalls.
