🏢 Establishment of Erandol Sub-Divisional Office
The Erandol Sub-Divisional Office was established on August 15, 2013, and is located on Mhasawad Road in the town of Erandol.
📖 Historical Background of the Subdivision
The Erandol Subdivision comprises three talukas: Erandol, Dharangaon, and Parola—each carrying a rich cultural and historical heritage. Here’s a brief overview:
🏞️ (a) Erandol
In ancient times, the region was famously known as “Eka Chakra Nagari” during the era of the Pandavas. Later, it came to be called “Arunavati.”
Today, Erandol lies gracefully on the banks of the Anjani River, surrounded by the Satpuda and Ajintha mountain ranges. It shares its borders with the talukas of Dharangaon, Pachora, Bhadgaon, and Parola.
💍 (b) Parola
The town of Parola is renowned for its exquisite gold ornaments and traditional bullock cart manufacturing. It is also revered as a spiritual town, often referred to as “Pavannagari.”
🏰 (c) Dharangaon
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is believed to have halted at Dharangaon during his campaign against Surat.
In the 17th century, when Dharangaon was a key trading center under British rule, Shivaji Maharaj successfully collected ₹4,380 in revenue from the British.
During the Mughal era, Dharangaon was well-known for its textiles, especially Jirifaf and Bhiran fabrics.
Since 1990, Kaviyatri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University (formerly North Maharashtra University) has been situated along the banks of the Girna River in Dharangaon Taluka, serving the districts of Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar. The university campus spreads across a vast area of 650 acres.
