There are two Parliamentary Constituencies and 12 Assembly Constituencies in Jalgaon district.

Parliamentary Constituencies :

  1. (16) Erandol Parliamentary Constituency.
  2. (17) Jalgaon Parliamentary Constituency.

  3. (92) Amalner Assembly Constituency.
  4. (93) Chopda Assembly Constituency.
  5. (94) Erandol Assembly Constituency.
  6. (96) Pachora Assembly Constituency.

Aims and objectives:

We being a democratic Country have accepted parliamentary form of Government under our constitution of India. Under the provision of constitution & representation of Peoples Act 1950 & 1951 elections are conducted for the post of President, Vice President, Parliamentary Constituency, Legislative assembly constituency normally at every 5 years.

Main Aims / Objectives of establishing District Election Office is to conduct election of Lok sabha, Rajya Sabha & State Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Also election of member of legislative councils from teacher constituency, / Graduate constituency & local bodies constituencies.

To conduct elections for the Parliament and the State Legislative Assembly/Council peacefully is the main duty assigned to this department. In addition this branch also looks after the preparation of voter's list, preparation of voter's photo-identity card, reorganization of polling stations etc.

Appointment:

Under section 13 AA of Representation of Peoples Act 1950, The Election Commission of India in consultation of State Government Designate Collector of District as District Election Officer. The work of District Election Officer is as follows.

1.Preparation of Electoral Rolls for Legislative Assembly Constituency.
2.Conducting Election of Parliamentary Constituency & Legislative Assembly    Constituency.
3.Fixing of Polling Stations.
4.Appointment of Presiding officer’s and polling officer’s for conducting elections.
5.Appointment of Enumerator & Supervisors for preparation of Electoral rolls.
6.Registration of voters & preparation of Electoral roll

Electoral Registration officer & Assistant electoral registration officer are appointed under section 13 B & 13 C of Representation of Peoples Act 1950 respectively. Electoral registration officer & Assistant Electoral registration officer works under control of District Election Officer.

Election matters related to Parliamentary & State Legislative assembly Constituency are govern under Constitutional provision & under Representation of Peoples Act 1950 & 1951.

Representation of Peoples Act 1950 is broadly related to delimitation of Parliamentary & Legislative Assembly Constituencies & Preparation of Electoral rolls for these constituencies and qualification & disqualifying of electors etc.


Representation of Peoples Act 1951 is broadly related with conduct of election of Parliamentary Constituencies & Legislative Assembly Constituencies.

Administrative Machinery:

Collector & District Election officer is over all controlling authority of all the elections in the District he is Returning officer for Parliamentary Constituency and officer not below than the rank of Deputy Collector is designated as Returning officer for Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Generally Ro's for Legislative assembly Constituencies are designated as ARO for Parliamentary Constituency

For conducting Lok sabha Election Collector is usually appointed as Returning Officer, and Deputy collectors are appointed as assistant Returning officers to assist the collector.

For conducting election of Legislative Assembly, Collector is over all controlling authority as a District Election Officer and Deputy Collector Sub Divisional Officer’s are appointed as Returning Officer for each Assembly Constituency.
